Formation at Stark Caverns seen in blacklight

Stark Caverns is now offering a new cave experience – a Blacklight Tour, unique in the Lake Area and one of just a handful in the country. This tour is completely different than our standard tour and focuses on the science and beauty of fluorescent minerals. It’s unlike anything you’ve seen or done before.

You’ll enter the dark cave outfitted with a helmet (it’s harder to see those low hanging rocks in the dark), safety glasses (to help protect your eyes from the UV light), and a blacklight flashlight. Your tour guide will have been trained on fluorescent minerals and of course will know the most spectacular areas of the cave to see in blacklight.

When you walk in and turn on your flashlight, you’ll feel like you’ve entered another world, awash in purples, pinks and white. Formations that are not normally visible in our standard tour pop out in the blacklight where there are increased concentrations of calcite. You'll get to see the Whale's ribcage, Jack the Dripper's skeletal arm, the twin volcanos, cave pearls and other interesting and colorful formations.

You’ll also be treated to our growing collection of fluorescent minerals from around the world.

Advance tickets are required with the tour starting at 5:15 pm.  Call 573-369-3306 to reserve your spot today. You must reserve your spot by 4 pm the day of the tour in order to take the tour.  Children uner the age of 8 are not allowed to take the tour due to safety concerns.
